Challenges as Part of the Netherlands Antilles
Due to Sint Maarten’s geographical separation from the rest of the Netherlands Antilles, it faced challenges in actively participating within the Netherlands Antilles Football Union (NAVU).
FIFA Membership Process
After the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles in 2010, Sint Maarten became a self-governing country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. While Curacao retained FIFA membership, Sint Maarten was left out. However, the Sint Maarten Football Federation (SXMFF) is currently in the process of gaining official FIFA membership, working towards international recognition in global football governance.
ACHIEVEMENTS
During recent years the SXMFF has participated in and hosted several activities. Below is an overview of the activities and achievements over the past years:
First International Match
Sint Maarten played their first official international game in 1989 during the CFU Caribbean Cup after being accepted as a member.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
CONCACAF Membership
In 2002, the SXMFF became an associated member of CONCACAF, and in 2013, it gained full membership.
