Football Beginnings on Sint Maarten

Football has been played on Sint Maarten since 1960, but it was officially organized under the Sint Maarten Soccer Association (SMSA) on June 14, 1985.

2013

• August: For the first time SXMFF took part in the CONCACAF Boys Under-15 Championship

2015

• August: Hosted the CFU Boys Under-15 Championship with 12 countries

• September: Hosted a Dutch Caribbean Female Club Championship with teams from Suriname, Bonaire, Curacao, and Sint Maarten

2016

• January: CONCACAF Futsal Championship CUBA

• March: Boys U13 Himno I Bandera Tournament Aruba

• May: Boys U13 International Tournament St. Barthelemy

• June: CFU/CONCACAF Men’s Under-20 Qualifiers

2017

• March: Boys U13 Himno I Bandera Tournament Aruba

 

• May: Boys U13 International Tournament St. Barthelemy

 

• August: CONCACAF Boys Under-15 Championship Bradenton, FL USA

2018

• January-April: KNVB WorldCoach/Concacaf course

 

• November: CONCACAF Men’s U-20 Championship Bradenton, FL USA

• Sep/Nov: CONCACAF Nations League Qualifying

2019

• August: CONCACAF Boys Under-15 Championship Bradenton, FL USA (placed 2nd in the CONCACAF 3rd division)

• Jun-Jul/Sep-Oct: KNVB WorldCoach/Concacaf course –2019

• August-December: SXMFF WorldCoach/Afternoon School Program –2019

 

• Mar/Sep-Nov: CONCACAF Men Nations League Group stage –2019

2020

• January-February: SXMFF Youth Club Competition age categories Under-7 to Under-14, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic the competition was postponed until February 2021

 

• July: SXMFF Summer Camp for from 4 to 16 years old

• Jun-Jul/Sep-Oct: KNVB WorldCoach/Concacaf course

 

• October-December: Men’s St. Maarten Premier League (SMPL)

Challenges as Part of the Netherlands Antilles

Due to Sint Maarten’s geographical separation from the rest of the Netherlands Antilles, it faced challenges in actively participating within the Netherlands Antilles Football Union (NAVU).

FIFA Membership Process

After the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles in 2010, Sint Maarten became a self-governing country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. While Curacao retained FIFA membership, Sint Maarten was left out. However, the Sint Maarten Football Federation (SXMFF) is currently in the process of gaining official FIFA membership, working towards international recognition in global football governance.

ACHIEVEMENTS

During recent years the SXMFF has participated in and hosted several activities. Below is an overview of the activities and achievements over the past years:

First International Match

Sint Maarten played their first official international game in 1989 during the CFU Caribbean Cup after being accepted as a member.
